Personal Data

Personal data is specific information about personal or factual characteristics relating to a certain natural person or a natural person who can be specified. This includes information such as your real name, address, telephone number and date of birth. Information which cannot be directly linked to your real identity - such as favorite websites or number of users of a site - is not considered personal data.

Collection and Processing of Personal Data

DHL is committed to preserving the privacy of users of our websites. When you visit our web pages, our web servers always temporarily save for security purposes the connection data of the computer connecting to our site, a list of the web pages that you visit within our site, the date and duration of your visit, the identification data of the type of browser and operation system used as well as the website through which you linked to our site. Additional personal information such as your name, address, telephone number or e-mail address is not collected unless you provide this data voluntarily, e.g. while completing an online contact form, as part of a registration, survey, competition, fulfillment of contract or an information request.

Certain areas of the DHL websites including, but not limited to, MyDHL require registration or a password for access. Information obtained from users of these areas may also be used for DHL's marketing purposes within the limits of national law. DHL provides a right of access and rectification of personal data under the applicable legislation.

Certain shipment data will be provided to the authorities of the country of transit or destination for customs and tax clearance or for security screening, as required by the laws of such country. The information provided would usually include: shipper name and address, receiver name and address, description of the goods, number of pieces, weight and value of shipment.

Utilization and Passing On of Personal Data

We use the personal data which you have made available to us exclusively for technical administration of the web pages and to fulfill your wishes and requests - thus primarily for fulfillment of a contract concluded with you or to answer your request. In turn, it helps us improve the services we offer to you, and to make our website's content and services easier to use and more appropriate to you.

Only when you have previously granted your approval or - if so stipulated by legal regulations - have not raised an objection do we also use this data for product-related surveys and marketing purposes.

DHL does not share, sell, transfer or otherwise disseminate your personal data to third parties and will not do so in future, unless required by law, unless required for the purpose of the contract or unless you have given express consent to do so. For instance, it may be necessary to pass on your address and order data to our contractors when you order products.

Information from DHL

DHL would like to contact you in order to provide you with the latest information about updates to our website or our offers, news, products and services. If you contact or register with DHL on our web pages, we sometimes request that you indicate whether or not you would like to receive direct advertising material from us. If you are already a customer of DHL, you will naturally continue to receive necessary information about important changes in connection with existing contracts (e.g. rate changes).

Use of Web Tracking

We use tracking software to determine how many users visit our website and how often. We do not use this software to collect individual personal data or individual IP addresses. The data are used solely in anonymous and summarized form for statistical purposes and for developing the website.

Use of Cookies

"Cookies" are small files that enable us to store information related to your PC and you, the user, specifically, while you visit one of our websites. Cookies help us to determine how frequently our internet pages are accessed as well as the number of users. And they help us configure our offers so that they are as convenient and efficient as possible for you.

On the one hand, we use what are called "session cookies", those that are stored exclusively for the duration of your visit to one of our internet pages. On the other, we use "persistent cookies" for retaining information about visitors who repeatedly access one of our internet pages. The purpose of using cookies is to be able to offer you optimal user guidance as well as to "recognize" you and thus be able to present (as much as possible) diversified internet pages and new contents during repeated use.

Generally, we do not create an individual profile of your online activities. The content of a persistent cookie is limited to an identification number. Name, email address, IP address, etc., are not saved on the majority of our sites.

There is one exception:

Google Analytics Cookies. A small number of countries may use Google Analytics cookies on a small scale for specific local purposes. These cookies use your IP address as recognition, however do not identify you as an individual. In other words, information is collected in an anonymous form. The cookies collect information about how visitors use our local sites and use the information to compile reports and to help us improve local sites.

California Consumer Rights Section

On this page, DHL E-Commerce Solutions ("DHL E-Com") provides information for California residents, as required under the California Consumer Privacy Act ("CCPA"). The CCPA requires that DHL E-Com disclose how it handles California residents' personal information (as that term is defined under the CCPA), whether collected online or offline. Under the CCPA, "personal information" is any information that identifies, relates to, describes, is reasonably capable of being associated with, or could reasonably be linked, directly or indirectly, with a particular California resident or household. How We Collect Personal Information:

DHL E-Com collects personal information through its customer onboarding procedures as well as through its role as a service provider when it receives personal information associated with its shipments. DHL E-Com may also collect data through individual visits to the DHL E-Com website and through voluntary communications (via phone, electronically, our website, and otherwise) with DHL E-Com and in connection with the services you or a business that you may have purchased from request.

Purpose for Collecting Personal Information:

DHL E-Com collects this information to provide transportation and delivery services to our customers, and to improve our services for our customers. DHL E-Com may also collect this information to provide quotes for its customers, and to respond to inquiries or requests from customers or ultimate consignees of merchandise.

California Residents' Rights

As a California resident, California law grants you certain rights and imposes restrictions on particular business practices as described below.

Sale of Personal Information. DHL E-Com does not sell personal information.

Verifiable Requests to Delete and Requests to Know. Subject to exceptions, including DHL E-Com’s obligations under U.S. laws, some California residents may have the right to make the following requests at no charge to them:

  • Request to Delete: California residents have the right to request deletion of their personal information that DHL E-Com collected about them and to have such personal information deleted to the extent allowed under law.

  • Request to Know: California residents have the right to request deletion of their personal information that DHL E-Com collected about them and to have such personal information deleted to the extent allowed under law.California residents have the right to request, and subject to certain exemptions, receive a copy of the specific pieces and categories of personal information, as defined by CCPA, that DHL E-Com has collected about them in the prior 12 months and to have this delivered, free of charge, either (a) by mail or (b) electronically in a portable and, to the extent technically feasible, readily useable format that allows the individual to transmit this information to another entity without hindrance. California residents also have the right to request that we provide them certain information about how we have handled their personal information in the prior 12 months, including the:

    • categories of personal information collected;
    • categories of sources of personal information;
    • business and/or commercial purposes for collecting and selling their personal information;
    • categories of third parties/with whom we have disclosed or shared their personal information;
    • categories of personal information that we have disclosed or shared with a third party for a business purpose;
    • specific pieces of personal information collected; and
    • categories of third parties to whom the residents’ personal information has been sold and the specific categories of personal information sold to each category of third party.

    California residents may make Requests to Know up to twice every 12 months.

  • Submitting Requests: Requests to Opt-out of Sale of Personal Information, Requests to Know, and Requests to Delete may be submitted by emailing your verifiable requests to gmus-askcustomerservice@dhl.com. You may also submit your requests over the phone by calling 800-805-9306. To submit a request, you will need to provide DHL E-Com with your name, your address, and any information requested regarding the transportation or logistics services that DHL E-Com provided to you so that DHL E-Com can verify your request. DHL E-Com may need to contact you for additional information to verify your identity. DHL E-Com will respond to verifiable requests received from California consumers as required by law. DHL E-Com will honor deletion requests to the extent allowed by law as DHL E-Com may have various legal obligations requiring it to maintain data for a set time period.

  • Right to Non-Discrimination: The CCPA prohibits discrimination against California residents for exercising their rights under the CCPA. Discrimination may exist where a business denies or provides a different level or quality of goods or services, or charges (or suggests that it will charge) different prices, rates, or penalties on residents who exercise their CCPA rights, unless doing so is reasonably related to the value provided to the business by the residents’ data.

The Categories of Third Parties With Whom We Share Information

We share Personal Information with the following categories of third parties:

  • Our related business units,
  • Our information technology and software providers,
  • Our transportation providers, including air carriers and steamship companies, and
  • Customs agents and other authorized representatives for the clearance of shipments into an importing country.

The Categories of Information We Disclose For a Business Purpose:

We disclose the following categories of Personal Information for business purposes:

  • Name, Contact Information, and other identifiers: We disclose this information for purposes of last mile delivery to consignees and, as needed, for customs clearance purposes.
  • Customer Records: We may disclose this information who may need this information to assist in the delivery or customs clearance of a particular package.

Authorized Agents:

You may designate an authorized agent to make requests on your behalf. You must provide an authorized agent written permission to submit a request on your behalf, and we may require that you verify your identity directly with us. Alternatively, an authorized agent that has been provided power of attorney pursuant to Probate Code sections 4000-4465 may submit a request on your behalf.

How We Respond to Do Not Track Signals +

California law requires us to let you know how we respond to web browser Do Not Track (DNT) signals. Because there currently isn’t an industry or legal standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals, we don’t respond to them at this time.
